초록

The adsorption patterns of 1,3-benzenedithiol (1,3-BDT) and 1,3-benzenedimethanethiol (1,3-BDMT) on colloidal Ag nanoparticle surfaces have been comparatively investigated by means of surface-enhanced Raman scattering (SERS). At concentrations below monolayer coverage, 1,3-BDMT was assumed to adsorb via two S-Ag linkages but to have a single S-Ag linkage as the concentration increased. On the other hand, 1,3-BDT was assumed to adsorb by forming two S-Ag linkages regardless of concentrations based on the disappearance of the v(SH)(free) stretching band. Due to the absence of the methylene unit, 1,3-BDT did not appear to self-assemble efficiently on Ag surfaces. Theoretical calculations based on a simple adsorption model using atomic Ag clusters were carried out to understand the nature of adsorption patterns of 1,3-BDT and 1,3-BDMT on Ag surfaces.
