초록

In this study, I discussed the category of Korean Resultative by investigating the syntactic-semantic problems. The presence of the resultative predication in the sentence was considered as a prerequisite for Korean resultative. Korean resultative constructions are divided into two types ; ‘P result-ge P cause’ and ‘P cause-oe P result’. In case of a Korean sentence with an activity verb, the completivity of ‘Pr-ge Pc’ construction is not as clear as in English. In English, the resultative predication is a term of defining aspect of sentence. As a result, ‘activity verbs’ in English resultative construction can have completivity. For example, the aspectual role of ‘flat’ in ‘He hammered the metal flat’ is like that of ‘to the school’ in ‘He walked to the school.’ However, this aspectual role of resultative predications is not found in ‘Pr-ge Pc.’ In the construction of ‘Pc-oe Pr,’ either Pc or Pr should be composed of an achievement verb. I named this condition as ‘Condition of Appearance of Achievement verb,’ and tried to prove it in this paper.
