Feature based filtering system for preventing illegal distribution of android applications

Recent years have witnessed an increase in the piracy of smartphone Apps corresponding with the growth in the number of Apps on the App market. The primary cause of piracy is the illegal upload and download of these Apps from web-based file sharing services. In this paper, we propose a filtering system and a similarity comparison scheme of the core App filtering engine based on the App feature information such as image resources, permissions, and the directory structure of the APK file, which is the installation file of an Android App. To demonstrate v effectiveness of me filtering system, we develop a prototype and experiment similarity comparison. Our results show that the filtering system we have proposed can be used to prevent the illegal distribution of Apps. © 2014 International Information Institute.
