초록

This paper analyzes news coverage of Autonomous Delivery Robots (ADRs) using BERTopic, a neural topic modeling framework. Recalling the watchdog role of journalism in the context of transparency in democratic governance, our analysis of 13,154 ADR-related news articles reveals the focus topics of the Korean news media. The extracted topics have a notable omission regarding the rights and safety of Pedestrians and Bicyclists (PnBs), prompting a reconsideration of the intersection of emerging technologies, their societal impacts, and the media. The observed phenomenon, which may not be limited to local, is defined as a ‘watchdog failure’. As Human Pathway Automation (HPA) is underway worldwide, this paper contributes to motivating researchers worldwide to use BERTopic to investigate whether similar phenomena occur in their contexts.
