The Moderating Effect of Perceived Caregiver Support on the Relationship Between Depression and Quality of Life Among Cancer Survivors

초록

The purpose of this study was to examine the moderating effect of perceived caregiver support on the relationship between depression and quality of life among cancer survivors. Mental health screening data were collected from a university hospital in Seoul, Korea, and data from 233 cancer survivors aged 18 years or older were analyzed using hierarchical multiple regression and the PROCESS macro. The results showed that depression was negatively associated with quality of life and that perceived caregiver support significantly moderated the relationship between depression and quality of life. These findings highlight the importance of considering not only psychological distress but also cancer survivors’ perceptions of caregiver support when assessing their quality of life. In particular, cancer survivors who experience depressive symptoms while perceiving insufficient caregiver support may require prioritized psychosocial intervention. Accordingly, continuous and individualized mental health services should be provided throughout the cancer care continuum, and community-based alternative care services should be strengthened for survivors with limited family caregiving resources.
