Practical biometrics on-card matching for remote user authentication using smart cards

Advances in both smart card and biometric technologies have encouraged the development of multi-factor remote authentication schemes. For example, the usage of smart cards with biometrics allows the verification of users becomes more secure and reliable. Most of the existing schemes in the literature maintain the assumption that the biometric matching is an exact matching. However, this assumption is not realistic because the biometric features extracted from the same user at different time will be slightly different. In this paper, we concentrate on the security flaws on the matching procedure and propose a practical solution for biometrics match-on-card. Also, our scheme supports password and biometric change without require re-registration. © Springer-Verlag Berlin Heidelberg 2015.
