This paper aims to elucidate the distinct characteristics of platform and non-platform companies by comparing and analyzing investment attraction data within the Korean startup ecosystem. By utilizing startup investment attraction data, we identify the differences in investment attraction periods between platform and non-platform companies. Furthermore, we examine the average investment period for each service type within platform companies. The analysis results indicate that, excluding the M&A stage, there are no significant differences in the time required to attract investments between the two kinds of companies. However, regarding the time taken until the M&A stage, platform startups, on average, take approximately 13.7 months less than non-platform startups. When examining by platform type, the average time required to secure Seed and Series A funding is the shortest for the financial/payment type in both stages. In contrast, e-commerce and media types exhibit higher rates of subsequent investment attraction but require relatively longer periods to secure funding at each stage. © 2025, ICIC International.
