In the beginning period of radio broadcasting in Korea, artificial sound effects called Foley sound were used to create visual images for theatrical effects replacing the real sound of the nature since no portable audio recorders were available. Among the sounds they created using Foley sound effects, the method used in making sound of ocean waves is of special interest today for its creativity and uniqueness. This paper attempts to recreate the Foley sound of ocean waves using the same method as the one used in the initial stage of radio drama production in Korea and compare it to the real sound of the nature from the perspective of acoustics and sound engineering. This paper will then investigate its creativity and expand its horizon in the field of acoustics for the purpose of developing more creative sound contents to be utilized in modem IT technology. © 2014 International Information Institute.
