The patient monitoring system depends on limited resources and needs to be configured using a variety of peripheral devices. In this paper, we propose and implement a patient monitoring system to verify the performance of a software-based 2D BitBLT engine. We also demonstrate how to utilize this system, which runs on the Portable Software on Silicon (pSOS) operating system, to monitor the health status of patients. We designed a software-based graphics control method given these considerations. In order to validate the proposed method, we tested a PCB evaluation board with an ARM9T core CPU. Because the BitBLT-based software, used as an alternative to a hardware-based 2D graphics engine, increases the processor overhead, we overcame this problem by increasing the CPU clock range from 200MHz to 400MHz. BitBLT, one of the major functionalities of the graphics controller, is implemented as a kernel device driver to remove hardware dependencies, reduce the number of mount components, and enhance the potential for code reuse. © 2014 International Information Institute.
