A Study of Written and Spoken English Diary Practice on the Internet

초록

The present study aims to investigate the effects of written and spoken English diary practice using the Internet on EFL university students' writing and speaking ability and their affective domains. The twenty-five participants of the study practiced writing an English diary and recording an English oral diary almost every day for about 13 weeks outside of the classroom as a self-centered activity. TWEs, TSEs, and a questionnaire were used to collect the data. There were significant mean differences for pre- and post- tests, in terms of the number of words, word types, and the scores of TWEs and TSEs. According to the questionnaire, the participants’ confidence increased and their anxiety toward English writing and speaking decreased. These findings seem to suggest that written and spoken English diary could be useful to provide opportunities for university learners to practice English writing and speaking outside of the classroom in an EFL context.
