초록
Along with the continuous growth of the global textile market, the amount of textile waste is rapidly increasing, particularly polyester fibers, which are the most widely used synthetic fibers due to their excellent physical properties. Unlike mechanical recycling, chemical recycling breaks down polymers into repolymerizable monomers, minimizing the degradation of physical properties. Among various chemical recycling methods, glycolysis is considered a promising approach as it can be performed under relatively mild reaction conditions. For efficient glycolysis reactions, catalysts are required to lower the reaction temperature and promote the breakdown of PET(Poly(ethylene terephthalate)) ester bonds. Among these catalysts, nanocatalysts are attracting attention in PET depolymerization reactions due to their high specific surface area and abundant active sites. Herein, we prepared PET glycolysis nanocatalysts by passivating citrate with zinc oxide (ZnO) nanomaterials. The nanocatalysts successfully depolymerize PET at 175 °C, achieving a yield of 97.2%. This result was achieved in just 2 hours under relatively low temperature conditions, which demonstrates the high efficiency of the process. Therefore, this study is expected to contribute to the establishment of a sustainable resource circularity model for the textile industry.
