Recently, many musical concerts have been held in caves, as there is saying that caves have similar features of sound delivery as renowned concert halls. To verify whether those caves having musical concerts have a similar sound delivery as renowned opera house concert halls, this research has selected the following caves as comparative samples: an abandoned cave in Gwangmyeong-si, Whale Cave in Udo, Jejudo, and Jenolan Caves in Sydney, Australia. As a result of the test, there was a slight difference depending on the environmental condition of each cave, but the reverberation time of all three caves stayed within 1.2 seconds to 1.6 seconds, which is same as that of a renowned opera house. However, as reverberation times are different and very subjectively determined, it is very important to select the right musical genre when opening a concert. Therefore, this research carried out a sound listening test with a testing group to suggest an appropriate musical genre for a concert held in a cave which has a similar reverberation time with an opera house. © 2017 International Information Institute.
