With the rapid growth of data volumes, the demand for high-capacity storage systems continues to rise. To address this challenge, double-layer bit-patterned media recording (DLBPMR), a combination of double-layer magnetic recording (DLMR) and bit-patterned media recording (BPMR), has been introduced to significantly increase areal density. While BPMR enhances storage density, reduces transition noise, and maintains thermal stability through nanoscale bit islands, DLMR incorporates multiple recording layers on a single platter. However, DLBPMR systems are affected not only by two-dimensional interference within layers but also by interlayer interference (ILI) between adjacent layers. To mitigate these issues, we propose a novel media structure based on a hexagonal lattice with optimized magnetic island dimensions, designed to reduce ILI and enhance signal energy transmission from the lower-layer to the reader. Furthermore, a new generalized partial response target and detection scheme are developed specifically for this structure. Simulation results demonstrate that the proposed approach significantly improves bit-error-rate performance compared to existing models and detection methods.
