남방징용작가 야마모토 카즈오(山本和夫)와 베트남 동화 - 대동아권동화총서 『안남의 뜸부기(安南の水鷄)』(1944)를 중심으로

This study is a review of the background, author, and content of Great East Asian Fairy Tale Series “Crake in vietnam”. Writer Kazuo Yamamoto was dispatched to Myanmar as a “Southern Recruitment Writer” and engaged in many creative activities defending the “Greater East Asia Prosperity Sphere”. In terms of content other than the preface, “Crake in Vietnam” does not stand out much in praising Japanese imperialism. Therefore, it is necessary to find a common image of Vietnam in other Yamamoto's works or works by other artists published in the same era. At that time, Japanese intellectuals internalized the ideology of independent Asia from the West, and shared their image as ‘Vietnamese people who are kind to Japanese’ and ‘Sad Vietnamese people’. Vietnam has historically been under the influence of China. Therefore, the Japanese thought that Vietnam's unique literature did not develop and was an imitation of China. “Crake in Vietnam” does not reveal Vietnam's unique history or cultural characteristics. However, this text conveys the wisdom and lessons of life against the backdrop of Vietnam's history of war. The story of the weak cooperating with the wise leader to beat the strong can be said to be a characteristic of the works contained in “Crake in Vietnam”.
