Integration of business process management and rfid systems for improving patient safety in U-hospital

It is urgent to introduce a process management system in order to deal with all kinds of events that occur in healthcare institutions where RFID technology has been applied. This paper suggests a healthcare business process management system architecture which integrates BPM (Business Process Management) and RFID systems to deal with all different types of events. We review issues on RFID application in healthcare domain and opportunity of BPM application in healthcare institutes. We present an integrated system architecture for handling a variety of events in a process centric way and a few application scenarios. Using the proposed system, all the healthcare institutions where RFID technology has been applied can manage numerous events appropriately. In addition, it can help doctors make decisions by monitoring and analyzing the results. © 2013 ISSN 1881-803X.
