초록
This study aims to examine learner satisfaction factors in a required general English Education among university students who participated in a 15-week General English Education (GE) program at a university in Seoul. The program, titled Career Track English, was designed as a content-based, major-linked ESP program focusing on professional content-based presentation, speaking and writing activities to represent their learning in English. Learner satisfaction factors were analyzed into five key domains: (1) class management, (2) instructional content and activities, (3) learning materials, (4) instructor expertise and attitude, (5) favorability and affective factors. The primary objective of this research is to evaluate the effectiveness of a content-based ESP program with the four skills of English (listening, speaking, reading, and writing) integrated with students’ academic majors. The findings provide critical insights into learner satisfaction factors in an ESP general English course since the satisfaction domains involve both (1) external and explicit values such as the textbook, materials, and the time consumption for the completion of course and (2) internal and implicit values such as instructors’ attitude, kindness, and interaction with students. Finally, this study underscores the necessity of further study to assess learners’ perception of language abilities and the specific satisfaction factors regarding learning materials in order to improve the program quality and degree of learner satisfaction.
