초록

Textile waste is the second leading cause of environmental pollution worldwide, with 26 million tons of clothing being discarded annually. Since most clothing is made from a blend of multiple fibers, active research is underway to develop methods for selectively separating and recycling individual fabrics. This study aimed to investigate the effect of 80 wt% N-methylmorpholine N-oxide(NMMO) on PET when applied to blended fibers. Analysis of the solubility of cotton and the degree of selective separation of blends demonstrated that separation was possible without affecting the remaining PET fibers. Despite a minor decrease in crystallinity, PET (polyethylene terephthalate) retained its mechanical properties, indicating that its structural integrity was largely unaffected. NMMO-based separation technology enables the separation of PET/cotton blended fibers under simple processing conditions, enabling the high-value recycling of blended fiber waste.
