The development of an optimization algorithm for shading device configuration of building facades

초록

The purpose of this study is to develop an algorithm that optimizes the configuration of shading devices installed in the glass curtain wall facades. This algorithm is based on data from shadow analysis of the building facades. The purpose of the proposed algorithm is to create novel design methodology to improve the energy-saving performance and aesthetics of glass curtain wall facades by utilizing optimized shading configuration. In other words, this study reflects a paradigm shift from traditional design methodology in architecture which depends on architect's arbitrary intuitions to a new data-driven design that utilizes urban data to a much greater extent as a source of design innovation. © 2015 International Information Institute.
