초록

Holographic data storage (HDS) systems read and write information in a volume and the information is processed per page. It has the advantage of a high recording density and data transfer rate. However, HDS also has two major drawbacks as the recording density increases: two-dimensional (2D) intersymbol interference and interpage interference. A bright page that contains many ON pixels influences the reliable detection of the neighboring pages, which causes fewer pages to be stored in the volume. This paper introduces four 6/8 sparse-ON pixel 2D modulation codes to increase the number of pages stored in a HDS volume. The proposed codes are compared to the conventional 6/8 balanced code, and they showed better performance than that of the balanced code. Therefore, the proposed codes can increase the recording capacity without a loss in performance. © 2014 International Information Institute.
