An Several previous studies have confirmed that the level of intoxication of a person can be determined by comparing characteristics of his/her voice before and after drinking alcoholic beverages. This paper suggests an improved method to conduct a voice sobriety test by utilizing valid-frame deviation. Valid-frame deviation of speech is a method of finding properties in the voice before and after drinking using the standard deviation in the distance from the baseline. This paper presents the results of an experiment comparing two cases: The accuracy of intoxication judgment using 80% valid- frame deviation to the one using 100% valid-frame deviation. It concludes that using 80% valid-frame deviation produces a higher accuracy in judging whether or not someone is intoxicated. © 2015 International Information Institute.
