In this letter, we first investigate the physical-layer security of an uplink low Earth orbit satellite communication system in the presence of formation-flying satellite eavesdroppers. The eavesdroppers move in close proximity as a cluster, flying in linear or circular formations based on along-track or projected circular orbits. We derive a closed-form expression for the probability density function of the effective signal-to-noise ratio at the eavesdroppers and analyze the ergodic secrecy capacity of the system, which are validated through Monte Carlo simulations. Simulation results show that the orbital configurations, as well as the type and size of satellite eavesdropping clusters, have a significant impact on secrecy performance. These findings could provide useful insights to design secure uplink satellite systems.
