초록

This study compares Dante’s La Divina Commedia with Ju Homin’s Along with the Gods to examine the meaning of the afterlife through the literature review research method. Western culture speaks to the separation of this world from the afterlife based on the dualism of soul and body, which is well expressed in the doctrine of purgatory. Meanwhile, East Asian culture refers to the connection between this world and the afterlife based on the idea of Samsara and the principle of Saguje (Joongyu). This study argues that the afterlife is not a discontinuous world in the religious dimension, but a place of fair judgment and hope for a new life by reflecting the reality of people’s lives. Finally, this study proposes a humanistic exploration of the afterlife, which is more diverse as a development task for subsequent research.
