The trigger type superconducting fault current limiter (SFCL) decreases the fault currents without steady-state power loss by using the switching operation of high temperature superconducting (HTSC) elements. However, the application of SFCL can lead to malfunction in overcurrent relays (OCRs), which disrupts the protection coordination of OCRs. In this paper, compensation method consists of the impedance symmetrical components is suggested for the single line ground faults. The proposed method considers situations that the fault currents flow in reverse direction due to the looped structure of the power distribution system. This paper validates the suppression of OCR malfunction and recovery of the protection coordination of OCRs using the compensation method in a loop power distribution system incorporating SFCL under single line ground fault conditions.
