비대면 영어 말하기 수업에 대한 대학생의 인식에 관한 사례 연구

초록

Objectives This case study examines how a speaking-focused general English course was conducted remotely amid the COVID-19 pandemic situation and how college students perceived their learning experience. Methods The main source of data was a survey questionnaire, consisting of Likert-scale, multiple choice, and open-ended questions. A total of 150 mostly first-year college students taking the course responded, and descriptive statistics and general qualitative analysis methods were used for data analysis. Results The findings of the study indicate that the students showed overall satisfaction with their remote English speaking classes which adopted both synchronous (i.e., real-time video conferencing using Zoom) and asynchronous (i.e., pre-recorded videos) modes of instruction. The students responded positively not only to how each mode served unique purposes such as increasing opportunities to produce English output and promoting self-paced learning respectively but also to how the combination of both modes created synergy effects by supplementing each other. Some negative sides of their remote learning experiences are discussed as well. Conclusions Based on the findings, some implications are presented that can help instructors facilitate more effective remote English speaking classes.
