초록

As renewable energy based DC systems continue to expand, fault interruption remains challenging due to the absence of natural current zero-crossings, resulting in large and fast-rising fault currents. This study proposes a novel trigger-type double-quench Superconducting Fault Current Limiting Circuit Breaker (SFCL-CB) that employs a voltage-triggered diversion and a magnetically coupled secondary quench to effectively limit the initial current surge and distribute thermal stress. To enable rapid and selective protection, a Rate of Change (ROC) relay is integrated into the system, which detects transient current variations and initiates tripping actions based on predefined thresholds. The interaction between the SFCL-CB and the ROC relay is investigated through time-domain simulations for both near-end and far-end fault conditions. The results confirm that the proposed topology reduces fault current peaks and dI/dt while ensuring reliable relay coordination and selective fault clearing. Consequently, the proposed ROC integrated SFCL-CB provides an effective solution for DC fault protection while mitigating circuit-breaker stress.
